Garrard County was created in 1797 from Madison, Lincoln and Mercer Counties.
The following deed abstracts were first published from December 2000 to December 2001 in the Owsley Family Historical Society
Newsletter.

Deeds Recorded June 1797 - October 1805
p. 588 Articles of agreement of 15 June 1803 between James Dove, of Garrard
Co. and Henry Owsley, of Lincoln Co. Dove started drilling a well to procure saltwater, but lacked the resources to continue.
He agreed that if Owsley persevered and was successful Owsley could dispose of 1/2 of the saltwater. Owsley is also permitted
to sink any other well on Dove's land and if he found salt water could claim 3/4 of it. Witnessed by John Ren, Daniel Owsley,
George Reed. No registration date.

p. 34 Instrument of 17 Jan 1798. Jonathan Owsley, of Randolph Co., Territory
of the U.S. northwest of the river Ohio appoints his friend William Miller Bledsoe his attorney to recover any debts against
John Alcorn, late of Garrard Co. Witnessed by Benj. Letcher, John Bryant, Joseph Bledsoe, Junr. Registered March 1799.

Deeds Recorded November 1805 - October 1811
p. 46 Deed of 2 Apr 1806 from Michael Miller to William Ousley, both of
Garrard Co. Two bonds were executed by Miller to Owsley, one for payment of $2024, the other for $276, as well as 4 lots in
the Town of Lancaster, numbered 43, 44, 52 and 72, his wagon and team, all cattle and horses, blacksmith tools, for the land
on which he lives, purchased this day from Owsley. Witnessed by Thos. G. Watkins, _____ Vanmetre, James McCrory. Registered

Co. For $300, one Negro man named Jack. If Sampson does not pay Boyle the $300 by 1 Sept. next, Owsley is to sell the man
at auction and pay Boyle the $300, plus interest. Witnessed by Wm. Jennings, Benj. Letcher. Registered 18 Oct 1809.
p. 543 Deed of 18 Sep 1810 from William Owsley and Daniel Owsley, of Lincoln
Co., executors of the will of Thomas Owsley, decd, to Henry Mauzy, for $50 land in Fleming and Mason Counties, being a tract
of the Thomas Owsley survey of 2207 3/4 acres comprising 999 acres and a tract in the same of 1000 acres. These two tracts
were sold to Mauzy except for a choice of 500 acres which was devised by Thomas Owsley on Elizabeth Gooch, now Elizabeth Bendell.

p. 77 Agreement of 16 Feb 1811 between John and William Bryant and William
Owsley. The Bryants hold claim to 2 tracts in Garrard Co.- 910 and 1000 acres patented to James Bryant. The land is managed
by Owsley and he is to received one-fourth part of whatever is received for the land. Witnessed by Benjamin St. John, Nelson

Indiana Territory appoints William Owsley, of Garrard Co. to receive from the heirs of Thomas Montgomery, decd, a tract of
land of unspecified size. No witnesses. Registered 19 June 1811.
p. 305 Deed of 4 Oct 1811 wherein Thomas Clark, of Garrard Co. for $79.50
due Wm. Owsley and John Jackson, sells to Owsley in trust one negro woman named Mary and her child named Dickerson. If Clark
pays the debt, this deed is void. If not, Owsley will sell the negroes at public sale. Witnessed by Erasmus Gill. Registered
15 June 1812.
p. 418 Deed of 15 July 1813 from Daniel Owsley, of Lincoln Co. to Francis
Dove, of Garrard Co. 74 acres and another tract, reserving for himself a saltwell and timber agreeable to an article executed
by Dove, for £150. Witnessed by Franklin McClary and David Kennedy. No registration date.
p. 424 Deed of 18 Aug 1813 from John Boyle and Wm. Owsley, executors of
the last will and testament of John Jones, decd. to Elizabeth Jones, of Garrard Co. 52 acres for $250.00. No witnesses. Registered

p. 453 Deed of 15 May 1813 from Samuel Johnson, of Lancaster, KY to John
Boyle and William Owsley. James Anderson loaned Johnson $900. Johnson sells to Boyle and Owsley Lot 1 in Lancaster in trust.
But, if Johnson pays Anderson back the $900 plus interest, this deed is void. If not, the Lot will be sold at public auction.

p. 467 Deed of 18 Feb 1814 from Henry Owsley to Charles Brown, 150 acres

p. 471 Deed of 13 Sep 1814 from Samuel Johnson, of Lancaster, Garrard Co.
to William Owsley, of Garrard Co. For $1.00, in consideration that Owsley has become Johnson's security in his $900 debt to
James Anderson he deeds to Owsley Lots 1 and 46 and 2 meadow lots. If the debt is not repaid, Owsley will sell the lots to

p. 475 Deed of 22 Jun 1814 from Lewis Haller to William Owsley, both of
Garrard Co. Lot 45 in Lancaster for $950. No witnesses. Registered 22 June 1814.
p. 484 Deed of 17 June 1813 from Jeremiah Gibbs to John Boyle and William
Owsley, all of Garrard Co., 2 stills, one of 80 gallons, and the second of 65 gallons, in trust for $40. But should Gibbs
pay to James Anderson the $40 and interest within 4 months, the deed will be void. If not, Boyle and Owsley will sell the

of Garrard Co. Lot 12 in the Town of Lancaster, now occupied by Bledsoe and known as Buford Tavern and that part of Lot 7
occupied by Joseph Hopper and Sylvy Hammond for $1.00 and to secure a debt owed Samuel McKee. Bledsoe is indebted to McKee
for $10,656.98. If he fails to meet the payments Owsley is to sell the land and pay McKee. No witnesses. Registered 3 July

p. 369 Power of Attorney of 25 Mar 1819 wherein Thomas Owsley, Senr. Appoints
"my friend" William Owsley as Attorney for transacting all my business in the State of Kentucky at the rate of $8 per month.

Maria, his wife, all of Garrard Co. 118 acres located 1 1/2 miles south of Lancaster on the road leading from Lancaster to
Stanford, for the esteem and regard Owsley bears to Charles H., his son-in-law, as well as his daughter, Maria E. and for
$1.00. No witnesses. Reg. 1 Aug 1833.
p. 377 Deed of 20 Jan 1835 from Anthony Williams to Samuel Ousley. 110 acres
adjoining the lands of Stephen Williams & Hans P. Owsley mortgaged for $170.50 due to Owsley by a note from Williams.
If Williams pays Owsley the money owed within 12 months, the deed is void. No witnesses. Reg. 20 Feb 1835.

had been conveyed to William Owsley by John A. Lapsley and others. No witnesses. Reg. 21 Oct 1836.
p. 249 Deed of 3 Oct 1823 from the heirs of John Lapsley, decd, to William
Owsley. For $14.20 per acre, 295 acres on Gilbert's Creek. Various heirs sign over their interest in the land which had not
been done yet previously. No witnesses. Reg. 1 June 1837.
p. 285 Deed of 26 July 1837 from William Owsley and Elizabeth, his wife,
of Franklin Co. to Simeon H. Anderson, of Garrard Co. For $4500.00, about 300 acres in Garrard Co. about 1/2 mile south of
Lancaster lying on the west side of the road leading from Lancaster to Stanford, now occupied by Anderson, as a residence,

p. 134 Deed of 1 Nov 1841 from Robinson Owsley, of Garrard Co. to secure
payment of a debt of $80 owed to James Kinnaird, of Lancaster, a bay mare colt 2 years old and 1 bay horse, also a 2 year
old bay horse colt and 1 saddle. Debt is due 1 Jan next. Witnessed by W. H. Kinnaird and Bob McKee. Reg. 1 Nov 1841.
